Post #11: 7TH and 8TH WEEK OF WRITING AS DRAFTING

In my previous post, I promised to share with you the actual status of writing the book, HOW TO SHARI’AH-COMPLIANTLY INVEST IN THE PHILIPPINE STOCK MARKET: BEGINNER’S STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE, by evaluating my performance during the second month (May 2022).

In particular, let me share with you my answers to the following evaluation questions:

* What milestones did I reach for this goal?

* How close am I to my goal?

* What brought me to my milestones?

* What roads turned out to be wrong ways?

* What better roads can I explore to get to my milestones?

* What milestones did I reach for this goal?

In planning how to achieve the goal stated above, I have the following road map and milestone indicators:

1st Week March – 15 pages

2nd Week March – 15 pages

3rd Week March – 15 pages

4th Week March – 15 pages

May 2022 → 60 pages

In sum, my road map is to write 15 pages of the book every week, and at the end of each month, my milestone indicator is the writing of at least 60 pages such that at the end of the three months period, I can come up with the book with at least 180 pages.

Here’s the milestone – or interim goal – reached in May 2022: drafting 10 pages only which is 50 pages less than the 60 pages target!

* How close am I to my goal?

Having drafted 103 pages out of the 180 pages target, I would say around 57% was already achieved.

* What brought me to my milestones?

By the unconditional grace of the Almighty, I would say persistence to write in spite of the travels and other invening activities.

* What roads turned out to be wrong ways?

I would not say “wrong ways” but rather “activities that stood in the way of writing”. Having said that, we can identify three ‘culprits’:

1. The travels I undertook during the month,

2. The one-week advanced course on stock investing, which I took, and

3. The need to immediately work on laying out, editing, proofreading, and cover designing Dr. Ryan Maboloc’s “Radical Democracy in the Time of Duterte” in order to meet the publication target (early July 2022).

* What better roads can I explore to get to my milestones?

Just for me to maintain the necessary discipline in following the writing schedule (8-11 am, Monday-Thursday) and the needed focus to write and write and write.

In the next blog, insha’ Allah, I will share with you the continuation of initial drafting of the book, HOW TO SHARI’AH-COMPLIANTLY INVEST IN THE PHILIPPINE STOCK MARKET: BEGINNER’S STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE, during the ninth and tenth weeks of writing (June 1-12, 2022).
