In the annals of history, August 1979 marked a pivotal moment: the last Friday of Ramadan was sanctified as International Quds (Jerusalem) Day. This declaration wasn’t merely a date on the calendar; it became a beacon of truth, a clarion call for justice amidst the tumult of oppression.
Imagine, if you will, the words echoing from the Sage of Jamaran, resonating with the fervor of a righteous cause. “The Day of Quds,” he proclaimed, “shall be the litmus test revealing those who stand against Islam, hand in glove with international conspirators. Those who shun these demonstrations align themselves with oppression, while those who march in solidarity defy the tyranny of Israel.”
Fast forward to today, and the relentless genocide in Gaza lays bare the brutal reality of a Settler Colonial Project cloaked in religious rhetoric. It’s an exposé of unparalleled proportions, ripping away the veil of deceit to reveal the ugly truth: a land claimed by divine right, an ideology drenched in blood, coined by an atheist.
But it doesn’t stop there. The betrayal runs deep as neighboring powers cozy up to the coffers of the Zionist regime, forsaking their brethren for political expediency.
And what of the West, with its lofty proclamations of human rights and justice? Their double standards stand as a testament to hypocrisy, as they decry the loss of seven mostly ‘white’ lives of the World Central Kitchen while turning a blind eye to the slaughter of over 33,000 ‘brown’ Palestinians.
In the face of such injustice, the media’s complicity is glaring. Their biased reporting speaks volumes, their skewed narratives perpetuating a cycle of oppression and obfuscation. Where is their commitment to freedom of expression, to the tenets of responsible journalism, when truth lies trampled beneath the wheels of power?
International Quds Day is more than just a commemoration; it’s a battle cry for the oppressed, a rallying call for all who refuse to bow before injustice. It’s a reminder that in the face of tyranny, silence is not an option. For every life lost, every home destroyed, we must stand together in solidarity, unwavering in our pursuit of truth and justice.
Only then can we hope to reclaim the sanctity of Quds, and with it, the dignity of all who call it home.
