Translation of ‘Banking and Insurance in Islam’ Finished!

Al-hamdulillah, the translation into English of Shahid Murtada Mutahhari’s BANKING AND INSURANCE IN ISLAM that started last November 21 has finally come to a close on December 23 at exactly 6:40 pm. 32 days instead of the usual three months period. This unusual translation speed can significantly be attributed to my application of POMODORO TECHNIQUE, which can be summed up as “calling myself to account every after 25 minutes”. (For details, see Francesco Cirillo, THE POMODORO TECHNIQUE: THE ACCLAIMED TIME-MANAGEMENT

My Writing and Translation Journey in April 2022

As soon as I embarked on my current book writing – HOW TO SHARI’AH-COMPLIANTLY INVEST IN THE PHILIPPINE STOCK MARKET – on the first day of March, I had already mentioned that it will be resumed in May and to be finished in June, insha’ Allah (https://www.elzistyle.com/clarify-your-book-writing-goal). Although ideally, writing should be done continuously without any interruption, I had no option because, firstly, this year’s Ramadan fell mostly in the month of April, and I have an ongoing long-term translation

Murtada Mutahhari in the Eyes of His Teacher

A close scrutiny of the Sahifeh-ye Imam’schronological and descriptive accounts of Mutahhari shows that the martyred Ayatullah Professor Murtada Mutahhari undoubtedly occupies a distinct station in the sight of the Great Leader of the Islamic Revolution and the Idol-Breaker of the 20th Century. In the words of Ayatullah Dr. Sayyid Muhammad Husayn Beheshti, “I think the reason for the Imam to hold such Professor Mutahhari in such high esteem and respect was not only because the Professor had been a student of

Mutahhari’s Replies to 5 Critiques on ‘The Issue of Hijab’

Text, page 382 Does Islam advocate women behind the veil, just as the word ḥijāb means “covering”? Or, does Islam advocate woman to cover her body in front of a stranger man without forcing her not to attend a gathering? And concerning the second case, what is the extent of the covering? Should the face and two hands up to the wrist be covered as well? Or, is it that the head and the two arms must be covered while

Fiṭrah and Ibn Athīr’s View

The word fiṭrah                                        Now, we shall begin with the first issue. What kind of word is the word fiṭrah as it appears in the Qur’an? فِطْرَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي فَطَرَ النَّاسَ عَلَيْهَا لاَ تَبْدِيلَ لِخَلْقِ اللَّهِ …the origination of Allah according to which He originated mankind. Salamun ‘alaykum!  I’m glad to share with you that with the onset of the month of Muharram, I’m so much engrossed with the translation of the remaining pages of Shahid Murtada Mutahhari’s “Mas’aleh-ye Hijab” (The Issue of Hijab).  Obviously, this book is NOT the same, and MUCH THICKER than, the one by the same author, which has been published many years ago under the title ON THE ISLAMIC HIJAB or ISLAMIC MODEST DRESS. Hopefully, THE ISSUE OF HIJAB will be published

The Natural and the Moral Action

Now, in general, what is akhlāq or, in the expression of the Noble Messenger, akhlāq mukarramatī? From where should we begin? We have said that we shall begin from the admitted opinions and indisputable facts. For the meanwhile, we are not concerned with doubtful issues which one school of thought may regard as ‘moral’ while another school of thought may not regard the same as ‘moral’. What is certain is that most of the human actions are natural actions and

Iqbāl and the Revival of Religious Thought

In the Name of Allah, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful All praise is due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the Creator of all existents. May salutations and peace be upon Allah’s servant, Messenger, beloved, favorite, the keeper of His secret, and the propagator of His message—our Chief, Prophet and Master Abū’l-Qāsim Muḥammad (ṣ). I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Satan. “O you who have faith! Answer Allah and the Apostle when he summons you to that which
